In this proposal for a new health outreach librarian position (written as part of 60616 Special Libraries), I established how information services and skills can be deployed to address community and organizational needs. Through the detailed proposal and budget, I outlined how a Community Health Librarian has the potential to improve not only health literacy, but also awareness and utilization of the health care system’s services. The new position could reduce health disparities, decrease costs and enhance quality of care. I enjoyed how this assignment forced me to articulate the value of information professionals and what would be required to empower their success in a specific context.
"You embody all of the traits that define an outstanding information professional: good at critical analysis, an ability to think through problem-solving situations, amazing communications skills, and a strategic mindset."
-- Professor Kim Dority, in feedback on assignment
